Flea Bottom
Fire & BloodFlea Bottom appears as a place of rough recreation and uncertain rumor in the history of King’s Landing: Baela Targaryen visits its rat pits, while a story about a missing foot is linked to the district and explicitly treated as suspect.
Baela’s Visits
During her restless time at court, Baela escaped her ladies to seek adventure around the city. Among her pursuits were wagers at Flea Bottom’s rat pits, where she staked coins and sometimes clothing. The detail places the district within her pattern of rule-defying outings, alongside horse races, swims in the Blackwater Rush, and drinking with the gold cloaks.
A Doubtful Tale
Flea Bottom also enters the account through a comparison between the fate of Larys Strong’s clubfoot and a tale about a foot taken from Prince Joffrey Velaryon’s leg there. Mushroom’s version says Larys’s foot was stolen before it could be buried separately and sold to a sorcerer for use in spells. The chronicler notes that the same story is told about Joffrey and questions the truth of both accounts, rather than presenting the supposed sorcery as established fact.
Narrative Associations
These brief references give Flea Bottom distinct but limited associations: it is a site of risky amusement for Baela and the setting of a macabre, disputed rumor. The account does not establish that the rat pits and the foot story are connected; instead, the district’s significance comes from its separate appearances in episodes that contrast Baela’s appetite for adventure with the uncertainty surrounding popular tales.
